That is Mr Fallon taking off on us (ahead of M.e.Fhast and I)!! Pulling away, on his own terms, because he decided he is ready to be a single lead canicross dog!
Dog geekiness warning… I’m pretty excited about this. Fallon is an 8 year old sprint sled dog (a very very sweet dude), which has excelled as a team dog, running fast and always keeping his tug tight. Circumstances brought him to me, where the old dog is asked to learn new tricks.
Not only he’s had to adjust to become a house dog; that is not only about easing into cozy beds and enjoying woodstoves, but also about new rules such as no peeing in the house, settling on demand, or not rushing through open doors… So many rules…. Anyhow, back to tonights hurray… Fallon has worked on a sprint sled team most of his life and now he is asked to work single, in a very different dynamic, with much more traction and a much slower pace (us humans are a real drag when we’re not on skis or wheels). One thing with Fallon is he is always happy to work, he’s only been unsure about the dynamic of pulling a running human and he’s been hesitant about leading the way, preferring to run behind an other human/dog duo. I haven’t felt the need to do anymore with Fallon then let him come to his own, let him ease into the task. Just keeping him within his comfort zone, letting him evolve without the pressure of expectations. It is awesome to see him progress on his own terms, ease into the different task.
Tonight, Fallon decided he had enough of being behind, and so be it, he pulled Mark ahead and off they went.
