Edit a year later: Momo runs again. Recreationally and with limitations. Retirement is a happy one, we still canicross together, we just take it easy.
Here I will start with a post about the end of the journey. It’s a sad time for me. Mopus has been increasingly lame. She always had a tight psoas which required some down time here and there. This time, deep down, I knew there was something more.
Momo has a compromised cruciate ligament; whether it is a partial or a full tear, at this point, her knee is hurting. Unfortunately Momo doesn’t know she needs to slow down, yet it’s time for her to learn to slack the lead…. Shit it hurt to say that!
Mopus has become such an amazing canicross companion and God knows she challenged me on our journey to get there together. We are about to start a new journey. Momo needs surgery, which will be followed by a long period of rest and rehab. If we do it right, maybe we will run together again. This could be the greatest challenge Momo and I face as a team.
In the meantime, along with this unfolding story, I will go back and share all I have learned with this crazy dog (and our friends)…. The main lesson being patience… And there I am again, with this injury, challenged with patience.
